PET bottles undergo different types of test procedures for quality analysis. One of them is top load testing. This test is gaining popularity as it tells a lot about the stacking load bearing tendency of the bottle, plus, any deformity in the manufacturing process. Preforms are blown processed to make them full fledged bottle. During this process, the uneven thickness distribution can happen which results in development of weak points in the bottle structure. These weak points are prone to damage when external pressure is applied on them in real working conditions.
To perform a top load test, the sampled bottle is placed between the jaws of the machine. A pressure from the top is applied until the buckling appears. Buckling is the deformity that appears due to excessive pressure. The pressure will keep on increasing till the bottle fails. Or creep test can also be performed to check the stacking strength. The bottle is made to hold the certain pressure for certain time to check if it can sustain the pressure or not. The machine has a special facility to connect it with computer. It allows one-way communication with computer for data transferring.
Presto’s top load tester is widely used in different industries like F&B, pharmaceutical, cosmetics, and other industries. It helps a lot assessing the shelf life and behaviour of the bottle in real working conditions.
