If you want to conduct the Izod/Charpy test with the help of this testing instrument, then you should first install this testing machine. For this, you need to open the wooden box by keeping it in the upward direction. Now, Place the Machine on a firm Concrete base preferably on a rubber mat to avoid unnecessary vibration of the machine. Fix up the leveling legs in holes provided at the base of the Izod /Charpy tester. Once you follow all the above steps, then you need to prepare the sample using a notch cutter. For this, you need to take a sample and mark the center position. Open the screws to place the sample. You must remember that samples of size 63.5mm x 12.7mm and any thickness between 3 mm to 13 mm are required to perform Izod Test. The sample of size 130mm x 12.7mm and any thickness between 3 mm to 13 mm is required to perform Charpy Test. Now place the sample in the space provided such that the knife edge coincides with the marked position and tighten the screws. Now adjust the sample using the micrometer so that it comes in contact with the cutter and assume this reading as zero preference. Start motor for movement of cutting tools by pressing the main red indicator switch. Move the micrometer forward up to the required depth to make the notch on the sample. On completion of the procedure, you must switch OFF the Mains. Take the micrometer back to its initial position and unclamp the sample by opening the screws. Remove the sample from it is the location as it is ready for performing Izod / Charpy Test testing.
For accurate placement of the testing sample in the Izod test, you must ensure that the fixture of the Izod test is set on the sample placement area. If not, first of all, change the fixtures to perform Izod Test. Open the knobs of the fixture. Place the sample in the fixture to perform the vertical test by maintaining the center. Close the knobs for firm placement of sample.
For the Charpy test, ensure that the fixture of the Charpy test is set on the base plate. If not, first of all, change the fixtures to perform Charpy Test. Open the knobs of the fixture. Place the sample in the fixture to perform the horizontal test by maintaining the center. Close the knobs for firm placement of sample. Once you follow all the above-mentioned steps, then you can easily commence the test.
There are many features you will get with the help of this laboratory testing equipment. We have created a list of them below:

If you are looking for an accurate testing instrument to calculate the impact resistance of plastics and metals, then we suggest you go with IZOD/CHARPY Impact Tester –Digital. This is one of the amazing testing instruments that will help you to calculate the impact resistance of plastics and metals. This laboratory testing instrument from Presto is based on the principle of the pendulum method. You can easily measure the impact resistance of materials under sudden falling force with the help of this laboratory testing instrument. This consistent testing instrument will help you to conduct two different tests. The first one includes horizontal impact on the vertically clamped sample that is the Izod test. The second test performed will be the Charpy test in which vertical impact will be tested horizontally.
The instrument complies with ASTM D -256 -10 standards. This testing equipment comes complete with an instruction manual, electric wiring diagram, and a calibration certificate from NABL approved labs. Izod Charpy testing instrument is an important quality test that helps to evaluate the impact resistance of plastics and metals. The test is used to measure the energy that is essential to break a standard test sample using the pendulum method. This highly reliable instrument is mandatory for all plastic and metal testing laboratories and for all quality control departments. Izod/Charpy Impact Tester reveals the impact strength in terms of J/m. You can easily test the impact strength of plastics.
Most manufacturers take this test with the help of this laboratory testing instrument to study the toughness and strength of materials. The Izod/Charpy Impact test is significant in testing and evaluating the impact resistance of various plastic products. This test is used to determine the energy that is required to break a standard test specimen using the pendulum method. This highly reliable instrument is a must for all plastic testing laboratories and quality control units.
The Presto Izod / Charpy Impact Tester (Digital) strictly adheres to ASTM D – 256 -10 standard. The equipment comes complete with an instruction manual, electric wiring diagram, and conformance certificate from NABL approved labs. Izod-Impact advanced Pendulum Charpy / Izod Impact Tester, available with energies from 2.71 to 25.02 Joules, is designed to determine the Charpy & Izod Impact strength of plastics and other materials. Impact tests are used in studying the toughness of the material. A material's toughness is a factor in its ability to absorb energy during plastic deformation. This sophisticated pendulum is controlled by a microprocessor that controls all the functions and the test protocols according to major international standards. The Digital impact tester and all its components have been designed and fitted to assure its reliability and long life. The correct operation of the electric and electronic components depends on proper use and regular maintenance.
The components of this testing machine include a pendulum incorporating an arm in the form of a circular arc of 150°, sample clamping test fixtures with adjustable screws, interchangeable weights: R1, R2, R3, R4, and R5. Other components include interchangeable weights, releasing system, and a clamping device.
